At Jaguar, the production system captures approximately 1000 records of essential build information per car, including part serial numbers, radio codes, build options, and diagnostics. This data must be retained for at least seven years to comply with legal requirements.
I was tasked with developing a robust system from scratch to securely store and provide searchable access to this information via tools on the Jaguar Intranet for authorized personnel.
The system I designed utilized Apache, PHP, and MySQL running on SUSE Linux. For hardware, I assembled three rack-mounted IBM Netfinity servers from parts, housed within two separate secure server rooms for redundancy.
Following the initial implementation, I transitioned the database from MySQL to Oracle to align with organisational standards.
I discovered that many years after my departure from Jaguar, the system remained operational and continued to serve its purpose.
