The college where I studied my A Levels had a class-room of Commodore PET 8032 computers. These were already dated then! I was already familiar with the BASIC language, and was keen to explore the assembly language on the PET’s. There wasn’t already an assembler for them, so I wrote a two pass assembler in PET BASIC.
